ABOUT US / President's Welcome
Message from the President:Hello My NSBE Family, My name is Ali Jihad Langston and I am inspired by the opportunity to serve as your (2007-2008) President of the University of Connecticut, National Society of Black Engineers Chapter. This year I stand proud before you as a student, as a leader striving to live the NSBE mission, to fulfill the visions of the founders of this great society. Anthony Harris, Brian Harris, Ed Coleman, Stanley Kirtley, George Smith & John Logan have paved the way and sought out for a vision which would have a striking impact on the world. A vision precisely engineered to allow the NSBE experience to empower its members to reach their full potential from generation to generation. NSBE sets the standard of excellence in providing services to engineering, science and mathematics students. We maximize our potential collectively to facilitate the development of accomplished engineers. This year I strive to make the visions of our founders a reality by encouraging membership to continue the legacy while maintaining leadership roles in NSBE, our communities, and other professional organizations. I will act to instill the pride and add value to the members which causes them to want to give back to NSBE in order to produce a continuum of success. In NSBE, we are advancing a cultural paradigm that inspires the Black community to achieve greater engineering and scientific feats than ever before. The roots of any NSBE success lie in the hands of ‘our future’, the Pre-Collegiate Initiative students and us being a service to our community. In my eyes, “positively impacting the community” is the most important aspect of the NSBE mission. This year as leader of this growing chapter, I will strive to dedicate our chapter’s long term goals towards being a force in the Greater Hartford community. A force committed to the guidance, development, mentorship and exposure of the young minds lost amidst the unforgiving inner-city lifestyle. This year in order to confront the problems faced by the Hartford community I have established a Community Service Initiative and a stronger Pre-Collegiate Initiative, to pilot UConn-NSBE’s ongoing commitment. Well in advance, I would like to thank those individuals throughout the University of Connecticut, UConn-NSBE Alumni, and supporting companies, who are committed to supporting UConn-NSBE this upcoming year. To lead by action is the type of leader I strive to be and there is little that I can say to make anyone feel confident in my ability. However, remember whenever it is time to live and say the NSBE mission, the FIRST PERSON to stand up, Will Always BE ALI!!! Peace & Blessings, Ali Jihad Langston UConn-NSBE Theme is: Living the Mission "To increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community " |
